INSTRUCTIONS

For this subject, Mr. Kannan asked us to create our own vehicle. We can design our vehicle for either land, air or water. Before we decide what vehicle we want to choose, Mr. Kannan asked us to study on each type of vehicles first. 

Based on the study, I decide to go with water types vehicle. I planning to create a ship that can be used for long distance travel which means have a suitable place for human to live inside. First, I did some research on internet. Based on the research that I done, I decide to go with Oriental style. 


Fundamental Exercise

In this task, we have been task to design and explore three types of vehicles. We need to choose from land, air or water. Before I start sketching the thumbnail, I study the real-world references of each types of vehicle. Then I create the thumbnail sketches for each vehicle type followed by the instruction that given by Mr. Kannan. 

After that, I have choose one of the vehicle type which is water to develop further by exploring different design variation that focus on form and function. Besides that, we also need to done the perspective study of each type of vehicle to practice structure and depth. In this fundamental exercise, we also need to do the line weight study, color study and texture study. 

This fundamental exercise has gave me the opportunity to study and understand how different types of vehicles are constructed and designed based on form and function. It has helped me improve my observation skills and pushed me to think more critically about how design choices affect storytelling, mechanics and player immersion. It also strengthened my foundation in technical drawing and concept presentation which I can apply in future design projects. 


Project 1

In this task, Mr. Kannan asked us to design a suitable vehicle and a set of supporting props that fit within the world that we choose. The vehicle that we designed should be man--made and mechanical, with at least one design chosen from either land, air or water. Before I start sketching, I create the moodboard first after I done some research on internet. Based on the research that I did, I decide to go with water type vehicle. 

First, I go with some thumbnail sketches first  to explore more ideas followed by 10 silhouette studies on a separate sheet to push shape language. Then I have choose the design that I preferred to further detailed it. Hence, my project 1 has been done. 

This Project 1 has allowed me to explore vehicle and prop design in relation to the world. I started by collecting references and building a moodboard to define the visual language and tone of my design. This has strengthen my understanding of shape language, storytelling through design and how to create functional, world-relevant props and vehicles. It gave me a clearer idea of how these design can be developed further in the final project. 


Project 2

For this project, we have been tasked to create props and the interior design that can be fit with the vehicle that I create in the Project 1. First I go with thumbnail of the props and the interior first. Once the thumbnail has get approved by Mr. Kannan, I start refine it and polished it. Hence, my Project 2 is done. 

This project has helped me enhance my shape language skills and make the design more visually appealing and believable. Besides that, it has also helped me improve my design decision making and visual storytelling skills. 


Final Project

For the final project, we need to refine it and polish our vehicle. In this tasks, we need to create our vehicle in 3D through blender. Once the 3D has been done, we need to render it and polished it by using photobashing techniques. 


This Final Project has allowed me to fully polish and present vehicle design. it has helped me apply the technique that I have learned from form and function to storytelling through design in a complete and cohesive way. 



REFLECTIONS

Through this Vehicle and Props design, I have developed a deeper understanding of the iterative design process and how functionality, form and storytelling work hand-in-hand to support a coherent world. In Project 1, I began by gathering references and moodboards to anchor my designs within a consistent visual and thematic style. I explored a wide range of ideas through thumbnail sketches and silhouettes, allowing me to experiment with different proportions and design languages suited for water vehicles. The breakdown of each vehicle type challenged me to consider the logic behind their construction—how real-world mechanics and environments could influence structure, mobility and material choices. 

Moving into Project 2, I focused on refining the vehicle that I created in Project 1 to make it more complete by creating the interior design and began applying principles of value, lighting, and texture to enhance visual readability and realism. This stage taught me the importance of clarity in design, especially through value grouping and atmospheric studies. I also pushed the development of props and ensuring that every component had a justified purpose within the larger world I had envisioned.

In the final phase, I produced polished key art, orthographic views and breakdown sheets for the props. This required careful planning to communicate construction, materiality and storytelling through visuals alone. I experimented with color palettes and texture application to make each vehicle visually appealing while still grounded in the world’s logic. Creating call sheets and layout presentations also taught me how to organize my work professionally and present ideas clearly to an audience. 

Overall, this Vehicle and Props design has significantly improved my confidence in vehicle and prop design especially in tying narrative elements into functional visual concepts. It has prepared me to think more critically about how design choices support storytelling, player interaction and immersion in entertainment design.
