INSTRUCTIONS

Task 2

In this tasks, we are designing the publication of the dissertation. The concept of the publication must be relevant to the research topic. Since the e-publication format is expected, page layout, publication size, font, font size, are predetermined by the lecturer. Best to keep at A5 size in case the program requires printing them in hardcopy format for any future audit or MQA accreditation process purpose. Other design considerations are to be made by the student, guided by the lecturer during tutorials.

The dissertation cover should have the title of the research, along with the student's name. The following must be found behind the title page:

• Student's full name (as appear in the registry)
• Student number
• The Design School at Taylor's University, Subang Jaya, Selangor,
Malaysia.
• Design Research Dissertation (DIS60304)
• Bachelor of Design Creative Media
• Semester intake
• Date of submission

Moodboard - Inspiration

Before I start the design, I search on Pinterest to get some inspiration. The picture above has shown the page cover design, page number, table of content design, chapter cover design, layout design and the fonts that I prefer. I planning to go for designs types that more like minimalist style but with the image of Genshin Impact so that it will be more align with my research.

Moodboard - Color Pallete

For the color pallete I decide to use this three color as my flipbook design main color.

Cover

For the cover page design, I decide to use one of the picture in the game.

Then, I decide to use the silhouette of them to create my book cover. First, I use procreate to draw there silhouette. Then I import into Photoshop.

Next, I add some texture on them and adding the title, name, student id and the school address on the cover page.

Then, based on the feedback given by Dr. Noorhayati, name and the address of school no need to put in the cover page. Therefore, I have did a little it adjustment of my cover design.

However, I am not satisfied with this cover  title design, therefore I start to explore different type of title.

After I done all the adjustment, my final cover page design has been created.

Layout

At first I planning to make the page copyright page as plain white but I found that it is a bit boring so I decide to add some pattern on it.

To make the whole design is consistent, I make the copyright page, Abstract, Acknowledgement, Table of content, List of tables & diagram background color as light yellow.

Therefore, below are some of my layout design.

FEEDBACK

Due to we have a Weekly Progression Sheet, therefore  the feedback section I will just upload the pdf of the Weekly Progression Sheet.

REFLECTIONS

Reflecting on Task 2 of my Design Research Dissertation, I explored the creative process of transforming my research into a visually engaging and cohesive publication. The task required aligning the design elements with the theme of Genshin Impact while ensuring that the content remained accessible and professional. I began by curating a moodboard to establish the aesthetic direction, focusing on minimalist and game-inspired visuals. Using a triadic color palette, I incorporated vibrant tones that reflected the game’s dynamic atmosphere while maintaining consistency throughout the publication. One of the most rewarding aspects was designing the cover, where I illustrated character silhouettes and enhanced them with textures and typography, refining the layout based on feedback to create a striking yet clean design.

The shift to an e-publication format was both challenging and rewarding, as it required me to adapt my design for a digital audience. I focused on ensuring the layout was interactive and user-friendly while preserving the visual elements that tied back to the research theme. This iterative process, guided by feedback from my lecturer, taught me the value of refining details and embracing revisions as part of the creative journey. Through this task, I gained a deeper understanding of how thoughtful design enhances the presentation of academic work, making it more impactful and engaging. Overall, Task 2 strengthened my design and technical skills, equipping me with valuable experience in balancing aesthetics with functionality.
