    INSTRUCTIONS

    Project 1A : Sound Dubbing

Mr. Martin ask us to do the Sound Dubbing exercise by using the clip of Everything, Everywhere, All at once. Before we start the sound dubbing exercise, we have been asked to watch through the movie first so that we can understand what is this movie talking about and what kind of sound effect would be suitable.

For this exercise, we need to dubbing the dialogue ourself and add on the sound effects and ambience sounds on this clip. Besides that we also need to create a breakdown spreadsheets before we searching for the sound effect that we need.

We have been divide into groups and each group work with one spreadsheets but we need to get the sounds ourself.

After we breakdown the sound effect that we need, we proceed to search for the sound effect that we want on internet. To avoid all people comes out the same product, the sound effect we need to get it individually.

Next, I proceed to start the audio dubbing. First of all, I import all the sound effect include the dialogue into PR.

After that, I use In and Out tools to cut the sound effect into the part that I want.

Next, I arrange all the sound effect in correct sequence.

Then, I use Pitch Shifter to edit the dialogue that I record myself so that it can heard like match with each character.

Last but not least, add on the sound effect transition so that the sounds effect won't sound abrupt when it enters the video.

After double check all the editing is done and don't have any problem, I export the video.

    Project 1B : Sound Shaping

In this tasks, we have been asked to do the sound shaping by using Audio Audition. For this task, we need to create 5 different sound shaping :

    • Voice of Phone call
    • Voice coming from inside of closet
    • Voice of toilet / bathroom
    • Underground cave
    • Alien / Orc voice.

To create the phone voice sound effect, I have use the Parametric Equalizer effect. By pull down the Bass and Treble and raise Mid Range to between 500Hz to 2000Hz, the audio will sounds like the phone voice.

Next, to create the sound inside the closet, we need to remain the bass, pull down the Treble and raise the Mid Range.

Next, to create the toilet sound and the underground sound, we need to use the Reverb effect. To understand the effect of each sections, below are a short description of the section in the Reverb effect.

Decay Time - The milliseconds of the reverb takes to decay 60dB.

Pre-Delay Time - The delay between the original sound and the onset of the reverb effect.

Diffusion - The number of directions in which the reverb travels once in hits the reflective surface. Low diffusion will results in the reverb reflections sounding much more distinct.

Perception - The balance between the dry and reverberant sounds changes perception of distance.

Dry - The original or unaffected part.

Wet - The processed or affected part of the sound.

Last, we will use the Flanger effect to create the Alien sounds.

Stereo Phasing - Keeps or removes frequencies that are common on both the left and right channels.

Feedback - The amplified sound from any loudspeaker re-enters the sound system through any open microphone and amplified again and again.

Modulation Rate - Adding time variation to a reverb.

Wet / Dry Mix - Control the ratio of original to reverberant sound. A setting of 100 outputs only reverb.

    REFLECTIONS

        *Experience

During this tasks,  I found that sounds can affect to the video very much. A good video should got a suitable sound effects. Besides that, sound shaping are also important, it can lets the audience more immerse in the video because if the sound doesn't match with the situation the audience might be confuse and their experience will be not so good.

        *Observation

Through this tasks, I found that there is much more can do with the sound editing. By following the instruction of Mr. Martin, I can create the results I want easily and create a good video through these skills.

        *Findings

I found that the different sound effect can convey different message to audience. Therefore, we should try to explore more sound effect and use the most suitable one in the video so that we can create a good video that we want.
