2. Class Summary
- Week 5 : Ask us to put the recap of the briefing in the blog and mentioned that plagiarism will cause to fail. Beside that, Mr. Zeon also ask us to decide the design principle first before we create sketches and fon't forget to follow the UNSDG goal that we choose. Create the moodboard that include the artworks that makes us got inspiration and rationale. Sketches and final need to be upload by jpeg format.
- Week 6 : Giving feedback to all student one by one.
- Week 7 : Mentioned what we need to pay attention in task 3 and briefing about how to do the final compilation and the submission of task 3 and final compilation. Giving feedback to student one by one.
INSTRUCTIONS
In this task, we have been ask to :
- some visual references (cite the sources) that inspire your own ideas
- 3-5 sketches (manual/digital) of your own ideas
- final design in A4 size, JPEG
- a rationale, in about 150-200 words, explaining/defending the decisions made in your design, the meaning/purpose of the design and the design principles that are found in the design
Task 3: Design
Sketches
As a continuation of Task 2, I have come out 3 sketches which can match we the UNSDG goals that I choose. As a reminder, the UNSDG that I choose is the 14th goals which is "Life Below Water" and it aims to conserve and sustainably use life below water.
Below is the sketches that I draw and simply mood board of every sketch.
Sketch #1
This sketches has shows a kids who walk on a path and surround the path is the sea with a lot of plastics and bodies of marine life. Besides that, at the end of the path is a lot of factory and smokes to shows the harm of marine pollution. The inspiration of this sketches comes from the two poster that shown in the mood board. I have use blue color and orange color to create color contrast in this sketches. Besides that I also draw the path from big to small to achieve proportion and put the red color at the middle of the sketches to achieve emphasis. As conclusion, the design principle that can be found in this sketches is Emphasis, Color Contrast and Proportion.
Sketch #2
This sketches has shows a shark that created by a lot of plastics and a shadow of a mother and her kids. The inspiration of this sketches comes from the two poster that shown in the mood board. I have use blue color and orange color to create color contrast in this sketches just like sketches #1 but in this sketches the orange color takes up more of the screen. The shark has achieve principle of closure and symmetrical balance because it is create by a lot of plastics but it seems like a shark. As conclusion, the design principle that can be found in this sketches is Principle of Closure, Color Contrast and symmetrical Balance .
Sketch #3
This sketches has shows a path and surround the path is full of plastics and bodies of marine life. The image inside this sketches might be similar with sketches #1 but the composition of sketches is totally different. The inspiration of this sketches comes from the two poster that shown in the mood board. I have use blue color and green color in this sketches because I was trying to achieve monochromatic and harmony in this sketches. Besides that I also using the same image of plastic to achieve repetition. As conclusion, the design principle that can be found in this sketches is Repetition, Harmony and Monochromatic.
Based on the feedback that given by Mr. Zeon, I decide to
choose Sketches #2 to proceed to my final illustration because the other two
sketches might not be so suitable.
Progress
PDF above has shown how my artwork start from sketches and
become final illustration. First photo is my sketches. I redraw the outline
of the plastic sharks to let it looks more tidy. After that, I decide to add
some coconut leaves and vine on the top of the artwork to let the artworks
have more details. Next, I add some mountain and wave to enrich the details
again. Besides that, I also shrink the image of the mother and kids to let
audience can be more focus on the shark. At the end, I add some light on the
sea to manipulate the effect of sunset and adjust the color become more
orange so that it still can be achieve the design principle that I decide
before.

Rachel Yeo Rong Qing_ Plastic Free Ocean_ Task 3 (JPEG)
The UNSDG goal that I choose is the 14th UNSDG goals “Life Below Water” which aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainably development. I choose shark as my main object of my design to let it can be related with the goal. Shark has symbolizes the polluted marine life, the mother symbolizes as human and her kids symbolizes as future of human. Therefore here has foreshadow the future of the oceans was full of plastics and been polluted by garbage. In this design, audience can focus on the plastic shark at the first and I want to convey message about "Harm of plastic to marine life" and "Care for the marine environment" to audience.
I have use different image of plastic and arrange it to let it looks like a shark. This has achieve Principle of Closure. Besides that, I also use cold color and warm color in my design to achieve Color Contrast. Other than that, I have draw the shark in a big size but human in small size to create Emphasis so that audience can pay more attention on the shark. Apart from this, the image of shark also achieve Symmetrical Balance.

FEEDBACK
Week 6 :
General Feedback : The Sketches #2 might be more suitable to proceed to final.
Specific feedback : Sketches #1 is nice idea but there is a lot of thing need to be adjust if proceed it to final such as the factory because factory does not related to sea pollution. Sketches #3 looks a bit messy and don't have a point for audience to focus. Therefore, Sketches #2 was the most suitable sketches for proceed to final.
General feedback : Overall is good.
REFLECTION
During this tasks, I have learn about how to apply the design principle on my own design. Besides that I also learn how to create a good artwork by using the design principle that is suitable to be use. Other than that, I also got more understand on UNSDG goals and how the pollution harm to our ocean.
*Observation
A good artwork should contain some design principle in it. Not only the design principle, it should also convey some message to audience and inspire audience. Apart from this, we should protect our ocean because ocean is a main resources to human and we cannot live without it.
We should create more good design and try to inspire more people about reduce pollution and protect our environment. Not only the ocean but also the earth.
